“Moonshake” marks a new stage in the work of painter Tung-Wen Margue.

The exhibition reveals what the artist had already anticipated in his series of works, “A Scenography for the End of Time”: a planet under threat of extinction.

But can it still be considered the same planet, when the devastation is so profound?

The landscapes become lunar. Only the primordial rock bears witness to the passage of millennia, carrying within it the memory of water, sediments and strata that recall ancient lands.

Dystopia or reality, there is nothing fascinating about it. We observe, and become increasingly aware of the fragility of the times we are living through.

In his text “A Scenography for the End of Time”, philosopher Dominique Bourg writes: “Only the artist, amid this deafening silence, can still give voice and form to the lament of the elements.”

Will the tumult of the rivers still awaken the mountain?

In the “Moonshake” series of paintings, the artist offers us his vision of the world, at times lucid, at times dreamlike. Colours seem to burst forth from the earth, the rock and the minerals with great intensity, inspired by the Pyrenean marbles so characteristic of the Couserans region.
